Welcome to Quilter's Dream > Meet the Teacher!

Meet the Teacher!

Our teachers are wonderfully talented people! Here's the low-down on just a few of them, in case you are curious who will be teaching your next class!

Lynette - Lynette is from Down Under - New Zealand, to be exact! She has lived and quilted in many countries around the world, and we are VERY happy that she has finally settled in St. Albert!  She is an active member of the St. Albert Quilt Guild and also teaches beginner quilting for the City of St. Albert. Her quilts have been displayed in MANY quilt shows, where she has won gold medals several times.

Lynette teaches our Quilt Making Basics at the North store, plus Backing, Batting & Basting, Hand Applique, Hand Quilting, Paper Piecing and many pieced-quilt projects! This year she is offering courses on Bargello and a Lonestar Quilt, plus a great sampler called Six Halves Make a Whole Sampler!

Connie - Connie is responsible for the Quilt Making Basics program at the South Side Store! A native Edmontonian, we first met Connie in classes here, then she came to work in the store, and now she teaches for us! Connie has exhibited her quilts in several quilt shows (and sadly had one stolen from her), and has won her share of medals along the way.

This year Connie will be teaching Quilt Making Basics, Batting Backing & Basting, Wandering Star Adventures, Machine Applique and Turning Over a New Leaf.

Heather - Another native Edmontonian, Heather has years of sewing and color experience gained while helping her mother with her business, as an interior decorator! Heather has done several commission pieces, including a large one for the University Hospital. She has also had a quilt hanging in our Mayor's office! Most recently one of her Seminole creations was juried into Quilt Canada.  She has won Gold and Silver medals along the way and is a very talented quilt artist.

Heather's most popular class here is Machine Quilting, a four-part series that she teaches at both stores. She also teaches Binding & Beyond, Quilt Marking, Fabulous Feathers, an all-new Honeycomb Blocks Jelly Roll Quilt and a Thursday-night Jelly-Roll Club. On top of this, she works full-time at our north store and is responsible for picking all the great colors you see in our Hay Bales (aka - Jelly Rolls!)

Darlene - Darlene started working for Quilter's Dream some 15 years ago, after taking only a couple of quilting classes! Over the years she has taken over Management of the Quilt side of the store and has blossomed into an art quilter.  She has exhibited in quilt shows and won both gold and silver medals, and has been a Guest Speaker, Teacher and Presenter at several quilt guilds, including Yellowknife, Sherwood Park, and Black Gold. Her works now "live" around the world, having sold pieces that now reside in Poland, the Czech Republic and Germany, to name but a few. Her journey as a quilter has been very exciting and continues on!

Darlene teaches two Fibre Arts Clubs - one that is in its 3rd year at the north store, and a new one starting out at the south store. She also does many shorter workshops and classes on various art techniques, collage, fabric painting etc.

Phyllis - Need to know anything about your Bernina Embroidery Machine (or any other machine for that matter)?   Ask Phyllis!  She is a master at machine embroidery!  Philli works full-time at the north store and spends her creative moments putting together stunning works that utilize both machine embriodery and quilting techniques. Phyllis has also taught Machine Orientation, Hienz 57 (NS), Lingerie Classes, and Bernina Club for approximately 16 yrs and many many more.

This year, on top of her already popular (and very full) Artista Club, Philli is offering a Friday Goose Tracks program for people with ALL makes and models of embroidery machines to work on. This stunning quilt combines applique with wonderful fill-stitches and thread choices!

Maureen - Another veteran sewer, quilter, machine embrioder-er par excellence! With her background in "home economics", Maureen is a multi-talented teacher.  She is able to take the most complex directions and break them down into easy steps for her students. Over the years Maureen has taught Janome Club, Heinz 57, Pfaff Club, CV Feet & Techniques, a runner of the month Club ... it goes on and on!

Currently Maureen is working part-time at our south store and teaching Maureen's Embroidery Explosion! This class is suitable for EVERY model of embroidery machine, so long as you can hoop a minimum 5" x 7" design.

Andrea - Relatively new to our teaching staff, Andrea has a passion for paper piecing - especially Judy Niemeyer patterns!  Andrea has taken several workshops directly from Judy and can turn those complicated looking projects into do-able ideas! This year Andrea is offering a Paper Piecing Club that will meet once a month at our north store!  Why don't you challenge yourself?!

Geri - Also new to our teaching staff, but not to our store! Geri has been involved in Phyllis's Artista Club for years now and is a master at machine embroidery! She has been able to treat herself to numerous workshops in Canmore over the years, most recently with Vicki Pignatelli. Based on all of this design and color experience, Geri is offering her second Club with us - Creative Quilting! So far every staff member who has seen her samples wants to join the Club, but there's still room in it for you too!

Our other great teachers include Luanne (the Queen of UFOs who will help motivate you on our UFO days!);  Jackie (The Flip Flop Block and our more-than talented Zen Tangler!); Coleen (Beginner Sewing, Alterations, Hems - our Garment-Maker!);  Dorothea (5D Software and also Beginner Sewing); Juliana (another great Machine Embroidery teacher - she'll give you an intro on hooping to get you on your way!); Denise (The Stash Pot Girl who leads the Quilting Girls at the south store!); and Wanda (another scrap maven, UFO leader and jelly-roller!).

Have some great class ideas and would like your name added to our list of teachers?  There's always room for more!
