Thread
At Johnson's Sewing Centre and Quilter's Dream, we carry a large variety of cotton, rayon, embroidery and specialty threads to enhance your work!
When quilters encounter their first quilt top, one of the major questions asked is "What kind of quilting thread must I use?" There are a number of answers for this question!
The first decision to be made is what look you want your quilt to have. It comes down to personal preference -if the thread works well in your machine and you like the look it is producing, use it! Don't let the quilting "police" set limitations on your work!
Bring your quilt tops into the store, and we love to spend time with you laying strands of thread down and seeing how they look. Variegated threads offer many color choices -what colors in your quilt do you want highlighted? You can also determine what weight of thread you prefer - for example, with the Sulky Cottons and Blendables, you can achieve a more emphatic look with a 12 wt thread, and a more delicate look with a 30wt.
The myth that the bobbin thread has to match your quilt's backing has also been blown away! Even if your quilt back is navy, if the front is pale yellow, a navy bobbin thread will usually show up on the quilt top as little blue dots. Therefore, use a pale yellow bobbin thread and avoid this problem!
All of the threads at Johnson's Sewing Centre and Quilter's Dream come highly recommended and will wear well in your quilts, garments, and embroidery projects.
